Answering an Android phone

When I get a phone call on my new Samsung A14 4G phone I can't swipe to answer it, and the call buttons to accept/refuse a call, at the bottom of the screen, don't work either. I have to use the volume up button. What's wrong? The phone is set to answer calls automatically within two seconds, but it doesn't do that either.

Advice very welcome - I'm tearing my hair out!

I'd say this sounds potentially like a software glitch on the phone more than anything, especially if everything else on the handset is working okay.
Are you able to make calls from it just fine?

If you haven't already done so it's worth simply rebooting the phone.

Next thing to do - check for software updates, both in the Google Play Store and from the settings menu (usually somewhere under settings > device or about)

Worst case scenario - would be a factory reset of the phone.

Thanks for replying. Yes I can make normal calls, and all the apps work normally. The software is up to date. I was thinking of a factory reset myself but trying to avoid it! I've sent a similar question to the Samsung people, but I imagine they don't work at weekends, so I'll wait for a reply before using the nuclear option.
