I am new to web designs but I have a software and I have created a site
Now it's time to put it on the internet and I am looking at web hoster companies.

I found one that I like but I need to choose Windows or Linux hosting, not sure whether me being a Windows user would have an advantage? I have never used Linux before but the Linux hosting option is cheaper, would my website still work?

Hey @nelsond, welcome to Computer Forums

Windows hosting these days is somewhat rare, with the majority of sites running on some kind of Linux. It tends to be a more specialist option for people who need to run specific, Windows only apps to power their website.

If you've built the site using some software and just need to FTP it to put it online, I would say that you would be better off picking the Linux option as should things not work out with your host you will have others to choose from - many hosts no longer offer Windows hosting in fact.

Hi thanks. I think I will go for the Linux option. What's the best way to pick a host, I'm somewhat overwhelmed by choice and some big ones seem to have bad reviews.

It can be tricky finding the right host.
A lot of hosts were formerly small companies, bought out by big ones who ultimately just want to turn a profit.

I have had good experiences with both Brixly and Krystal. Not the cheapest out there but with hosting you really do tend to get what you pay for.
