Waiting for apt-get to exit

Hi

I recently tried to update my ubuntu software as there are updates pending but it keeps getting stuck with this error message:

“waiting for apt-get to exit”

How can I fix this so I can update my linux OS?

Hi @anon47429100

It sounds like perhaps an update failed to fully install or finish. Normally Ubuntu takes care of this and removes the lock file but it doesn’t appear to have happened for you in this case.

Could you try running these commands in Terminal:

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

Then try running the updates again.
